☑ 2,6-dihydroxytoluene is a white or almost white crystalline powder, which is easy to dissolve in water and has weak acidity. It can produce ether, ester, ketone and other substances by chemical reaction. ☑ 2-Methylresorcinol is used commonly in dye compositions for hair color- dyed hair with equimolar parts of 2-Methylresorcinol as a color modifier and 10 primary intermediates. 2-Methylresorcinol produces red tones with p-phenylenediamines and 0-substituted p-phenylenediamines and grayer colors with N-su bstituted p-phenylenediamines. With p-aminophe- nol, an orange-brown color is produced.2-Methylresorcinol help impart color to hair. The safety of 2-Methylresorcinol and Resorcinol has been assessed by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel.
The CIR Expert Panel evaluated the scientific data and concluded that 2-Methylresorcinol and Resorcinol were safe as cosmetic ingredients. In 2006, the CIR Expert Panel considered available new data on 2-Methylresorcinol and Resorcinol and reaffirmed the above conclusion.
